Naturalization

The naturalization process may look easy, but is actually quite complex. A single mistake can lead to delays or even deportation. An immigration attorney who understands the intricacies of the naturalization process is strongly recommended.

At O'Grady Law Office, P.C., our Chicago immigration lawyer understands the naturalization process, procedures and policies. We know what the government is looking for and assist you in locating anything that may cause you to be deported.

For a FREE phone consultation to discuss your naturalization matter with an experienced Illinois immigration attorney, please call (312) 338-1808.

To become a naturalized citizen you must meet the requirements, which include residency, moral character, physical presence, attachment to the U.S. Constitution, a possible language requirement and an oath of allegiance to the United States.

These requirements have numerous components and nuances that define each of them. For example, you must have good moral character to become a citizen, which means that you should not have a criminal record. Certain crimes or combinations of crimes may disqualify you from becoming a naturalized citizen.

Do not Plead Guilty or Accept a Plea Agreement Without Consulting an Experienced Immigration Lawyer First — Even a Guilty Plea to a Seemingly Minor Offense can Jeopardize Your Immigration and Naturalization Status!

If you have a criminal record, do not submit a naturalization application on your own - talk to an immigration attorney first.

The Benefits of Retaining an Experienced Naturalization Lawyer

There are enormous benefits to retaining an experienced naturalization lawyer, including having a lawyer investigate your criminal history and determine if there may be any obstacles to your naturalization. If any obstacles exist, we can advise you of your options.

You may only have one chance for naturalization. An investment in an experienced immigration lawyer could mean the difference between becoming a U.S. citizen and being deported.

We can assist you with your petition to naturalize and with preparations for your interview. In addition, since 9/11, we have seen delays by the government in making a decision about naturalization. According to the law, the government has 120 days after the interview to render a decision. If you have been waiting longer than 120 days after your interview, we can help.

For questions about the naturalization process, please call us at (312) 338-1808 or fill out our intake form located on our Contact Us page. The initial phone consultation is free to determine how we can help you. Don't delay; call today.
